The dock master was sad to see Ken leave!

New Years 2017/2018 - For this year's New Year's event, we returned to Marina Jack's in Sarasota with 4 boats stopping for the first night at the Crow's Nest in Venice. It was another fabulous event hosted by Lin & Pat Hynds. Folks split up to explore downtown Sarasota and Lido Key, then came back to party together and welcome the New Year. Seven boats and 25 persons attended.  A fireworks display exploded right over our boat that was enjoyed by all.

2017 Pine Island Community Christmas Boat Parade - foul weather caused the parade to be rescheduled to the following day on Sunday evening on December 10, 2017.  The parade was open to all area boat clubs, individuals, businesses and organizations.  Christmas Spirit was running high as many participated in this event by holding dock side parties and taking the time to decorate boats and put them in the parade.  Other members volunteered their vessels to serve as turn boats to assist with parade route navigation.  While yet more members volunteered their vessel and time with parade route set up.
  • Parade Vessel participants included the Brelsford's, Harrington's Lafevers, Dekkers, Schuettes, Gauthiers (12/9) and their crews.  Numerous club members served as crew and passengers.
  • Parade Route set up was handled by the Cooks who volunteered their vessel which was crewed by Captain Cook, Goodwin, Brelsford, and Mendelson.
  • Turn Boats were volunteered by the Schuette and Harrington who had large numbers of crew and passengers aboard.
  • Munch and Miller volunteered their home (excellent parade view vantage point) for a club Christmas Party which was attended by over 70 members and guests who provided a resounding Merry Christmas and applause to the parade vessels.
  • Karas and Jeff Smith were backup boats for any needs including turn boat and parade route set up.

Venice-Crow?s Nest Marina Trip- Cruise Leaders Ken and Christa McFarland ? October 20, 2017- The Saint James City Boat Club cruised 55 miles to Venice and docked at the Crows Nest Marina to attend the Sun Fiesta Festival sponsored by the Women?s Sertoma Club of Venice. Our armada consisted of 8 boats carrying 25 members.  We arrived on Friday, October 20, 2017, and Ken and Krista provided a very tasty main course of Italian beef in support of an evening pot luck dinner on the dock. Following that was a night of social activities among various boats. Saturday, we attended the festival and enjoyed the bed races, parade, music and food festivities. On Sunday Ken and Christa provided the main course for a pot luck breakfast enjoyed by club members on the dock. Four boats departed for home port following breakfast. The remaining 4 boats enjoyed another day of the festival and departed for home port on Monday October 23rd, 2017. Over the weekend we shopped, bicycled, fished, swam at the beach and enjoyed downtown Venice restaurants. Many enjoyed dinner or drinks at the renowned Crow?s Nest restaurant. Weather was comfortable but a little windy. All boats made the round trip safely. All agreed that the City of Venice was a great host and the festival was great fun.  Ken and Christa have certainly raised the bar and exceeded all expectations. An Out Standing Job by the Cruise Leaders!

Island Hopper Songwriters Fest at South Sea Resort was held September 22-24, 2017 on Captiva Island. We had 8 boats carrying 18 people that stayed at the South Seas Marina for this outing.   A big thanks to Bob & Jane Wason for hosting this event, and for providing sliders, slaw & pasta salad to go wish all the dishes to share others brought. Trolleys carried us up & down the island to all of the event locations, and while many of the performers were better song writers than singers, each and every one of them provided delightful entertainment.

Mucky Duck Lunch Run on August 30, 2017 ? Captain Frank Donaldson and Laurie not only hosted event but graciously provided transportation to the event due to limited dock space.   Three boats and 16 members traveled to Sanibel Island.  We arrived at the Green Flash docks.  Some enjoyed a short stroll while others hopped a golf cart ride to the Mucky Duck.  Beautiful weather and a great day.

Plan B Pool Party/ August 2, 2017, this started as a beach BBQ at Charlie's Pass but Tropical Strom Emily blew through leaving trailing winds and swells.  Bob And Jane graciously volunteered their pool and PLAN B.  A great BBQ and swim in the pool was enjoyed by 24 participants. The weather was great for a swim in the pool where the seas were smooth except for a cannon ball drop in.  Thanks to the club for providing the hamburgers and brats.

This years annual SJCBC boat trip, lead by Linn Hynds, reported that this year we had three boats (10 people) that stayed at the Postcard Inn & Marina in Islamorada sometime from 15 May to 15 June. The fishing could have been better but with the numerous side trips, it made for a great stay.  As hoped, we had another dozen boat club members that made their way down by car!

Our 4th of July Raft Up this year took place off Sanibel up near C-span. Although thunderstorms chased us out of the water, some still managed to experience the fireworks from a few hundred feet away!
